Basic Functions/Menus

BaseHead aims to offer a clean and uncluttered interface with minimal buttons to get in the way. Almost all operational functions have simple keyboard shortcuts* or can be found in the various menus in BaseHead

Command Bar

The command bar is found below the peak tree and offers some quick shortcuts to common functions which can be found in the actions menu along with many more functions.

Hover over a button to find out what each one is and what the keyboard shortcut is. From Left to Right:

  • Add to Taglist (T)
  • Spot to Track (S)
  • Copy to Transfer Path (C)
  • Open Containing Folder (O)
  • Open in Wave Editor (W)
  • Random Sound (?)

Read on for descriptions on each of these functions.

Actions Menu

Action can be seen by right clicking the Results Page or clicking the Actions Menu icon on the top right of the Main Page to see the full list of available functions (PC).

On macOS all Main Menus are at the top like standard native Mac programs.

Only files that contain the required UCS CatID code at the front of the filename will be affected, all other files will not be read.

NOTE: This will import Category/Sub Category tag data using the [F4] Metadata Chunk Panel “CatID” priority option for all UCS formatted files. If the CatID priority option is set “Low”, only records that do not contain any Category/Sub Category information will be imported, filling in the gaps. If priority is set “High” the existing Category, Sub Category and ShortID will be overwritten with the detected UCS information. Be sure how you want data to be imported.

Indexing Options >>
Allows you generate new indexes or rebuild the database indexing to keep your database running as efficiently as possible.

Rebuild Indexes
Force the database to rebuild the indexing which will optimize the indexing for peak performance. If you notice searches and browsing slowing down over time, try this option to clean your database.

Note: you need to rebuild the indexes if you select/deselect any of the below database indexing options.

Reset to Defaults
Sets the indexing options back to the default options selected

FTS Virtual Table
This option is set ON by default and unless you have a specific and understood reason for disabling this, leave it enabled. FTS (Full Text Search) is a new feature as of BaseHead 2020.12.106 which generates a new database table used to store all the full words in your database to match a query to results super fast. It can improve some searches on huge databases by more than 30x and in almost every case will improve your searching and browsing experience.

One side affect is it may increase your database size by a small amount BUT along with FTS are also some extra optimisations which will help clean and shrink the size of your database so in some cases it may not increase at all.

You will be prompted the first time a database is selected that does not contain an FTS Table that one will be generated and a backup will be created for you just for added assurance.

Deselecting this option will remove the FTS table when you rebuild the indexes if you need/ant to remove it for whatever reason.

FTS Index Options
FTS Indexing is optimized specifically for single field searching and is most notable on complex searches using multiple words. If you also like to use combo searches using the combo search boxes you can choose to generate indexes for these types of searches too.

Simply select any combination of these index options based on your needs then press the “Rebuild Indexes” option to generate index tables for these search types. You can select as many combinations as you like just be aware that this will increase your database size a bit.
