Floating Licenses

There are a two type of License Pooling that we will go over on this page.

Both are for different Situations

A

Cloud Pool

This option is best for facilities that have internet access on all the clients and want to assign one License per computer and want the  simplicity of not running a local license server.  You can still assign more licenses then you have QTY but of course when the QTY of running rigs is higher than the max QTY no more copies of BH can be launched until one copy quits.

Keep in mind, as this doesn’t use a server, it’s more of a library book Check Out/In type thing so basehead needs to close properly to return the License to the Pool.  If a computer is shut down cuz of a power outage then it’s best to relaunch basehead and quit it to return the license to the Cloud Pool.

B

LAN License Server

This option is best for large scale facilities that are either locked down from the internet OR just want easier license management and deployments.   The LAN License Server is a separate PC/Mac/Linux console application that the basehead clients connect to via and I.P. Address like CodeMeter did in previous versions of BH.  It has many advantages especially for EDU facilities that reformat all rigs from a single clone every semester.

Since this is a separate constantly running server application, the clients and server ping each other to see how many active licenses are being used and if a client computer goes down from a power outage the license will be released regardless as the server will see that it is no longer running.
