General FAQ

Common questions and quick answers.

How do I migrate my settings, preferences, and presets to another PC or Mac?

Your .settings files live here:

Windows %APPDATA%\basehead\

macOS ~/Library/Application Support/basehead/

Databases, Collections, and Taglists are in subfolders of the paths above.

Presets live in your Documents folder:

~/Documents/basehead/Presets

Licenses are in:

~/Documents/basehead/Licenses

How can I speed up and optimize basehead?
  1. Build all your waveforms (and optionally cache them on local drives). See Waveform Caching in the Actions menu.
  2. Set Max Files Returned to a lower number — e.g. 4000.
  3. Turn off Results List fields you don’t care about (right-click the header to choose).
  4. Disable any search [fields] you don’t use in the main search box.
  5. Disable Deep Character Search for faster searches.
  6. Never run a database file from a network location — it causes slowdowns and possible corruption. Use the Database Sharing/Sync feature in Options → Manage Databases instead.
How do I fix a Waveform Cache that never rendered fully?

If clicking the waveform jumps to the wrong location, the .wf cache file is corrupt. Press F5 to redraw it.

I have issues with WAVES plugins.

Can’t move controls and knobs on some WAVES plugins?
Try holding Ctrl when clicking — that usually does it.

WAVES plugins display a tiny GUI?
Known issue. Waves stated this is fixed in v12 — update, or run Waves in compatibility mode.

basehead is crashing on macOS while importing or playing certain files.

Check whether the files are locked. To unlock in bulk:

  1. In Finder, open the top-level folder of the files. Switch to List View (Cmd+2).
  2. Press Cmd+A to select all.
  3. Open all subfolders: Opt+Cmd+.
  4. Press Cmd+A again to select all (now including children).
  5. Press Opt+Cmd+I to bring up the single-pane Inspector.
  6. Untick Locked.
We have a closed network. What websites do we need to whitelist?
  • www.baseheadinc.com — for licensing
  • www.gstatic.com — Google’s ping service (used for connectivity check)
  • www.wasabi.com — for CloudPacks
My searches and network transfers are slow.

If you have both SMB and AFP active on macOS, try disabling SMB. More info here.

basehead Connect keeps losing its connection on an Aux track in Logic.

Logic Pro requires basehead Connect on the main Output bus. On an Aux track, once Logic loops with basehead not playing, the connection drops. Source Nexus has the same behavior — it’s a Logic limitation.

I have Finder or Spotlight comments in files. Why don’t I see them after import?

Most likely the files are on a network drive. The Apple-supplied API we use for those comments doesn’t support non-local volumes.
