iLok Binding FAQ

Common questions about USB-binding your basehead license to an iLok or other USB device.

Why don’t I see my license deposited in iLok Manager?

We bind to the iLok using its serial number, just like any other USB device. So it will never show up in iLok Manager. It won’t interfere with any iLok-protected software either — we only read the serial number at launch to unlock basehead, and never ping it again.

I switched to a new system and basehead doesn’t see my device.

For every new system:

  1. Plug in the USB device you bound to. (You have no idea how many people forget this step.)
  2. Download your .key file from your My Licenses page.
  3. Drop it into ~Documents/basehead/Licenses.
I forgot where I saved my .key file from my old system.

If you applied a key on a previous system, you can find it here:

~Documents/basehead/Licenses

Copy the file to the new system at the same path. Or just re-download it any time from your My Licenses page.
