Marker Panel

(Standard/Ultra) Versions

The Marker Panel allows editing and creation of multiple types of Markers. 

So what are markers used for?
For Music Editors this will be handy to mark when a songs tempo changes or mood changes or maybe a Sound Designer that wants to mark their favorite whoosh out of 10 to identify it fast next time you play this audio file.
  • CUE Marker Single and Looped  (Orange)
  • Region Maker (Purple)
  • Loop Region (Blue)
  • Sync Point (Yellow)

 

Markers can be created by clicking the above marker button or by using keyboard shortcuts below

CUE MARKER (Orange)
These are standard Markers that are stored in the CUE Chunk often written by other software such as Wavelab, SoundForge, OCENAudio, REAPER etc…
NOTE: Pro Tools users…To our knowledge they has never supported these.
You can create single markers for quick comment or mark a selection with In/Out times by pressing (M). 

REGION MARKER (Purple)
Region Markers are designed to mark a selection of a waveform for playback with a start and end position. This is designed to play a single time and for the purpose of highlighting a section in a larger file. 

LOOP MARKER (Blue)
Loop markers are designed to set a loop-able region within a sound file. Many DAWs will support the use of loop regions for sustained playback. This sets a start and end marker for a selected range and will loop playback when triggered within basehead. 

SYNC POINT (Yellow)
Sync Point markers are the only marker on the panel that is not written to the CUE chunk but instead is written to the iXML data in the files metadata as <AudioSyncPoint>. This marker type is designed to set a synchronization point when spotting files to a track and was initially used by supported DAWs. To insert a Sync Point, hold (ALT/COMMAND) + Click on the waveform

 

Auto-Write Markers

Sync Point write immediately into the file always, but the others are written based on the “Auto Write” option.
When it’s ON and a marker is written, playback will stop and write to the file.  If you need to add multiple markers always to files then we suggest turning this OFF and before switching to the next record press the ‘Write’ button to write all the changes at once instead to speed things up.

I seem to have an old aXML region playing, but I don’t see it
Some older rogue markers might be in the file. Press “Ctrl+M” to wipe it out.

How do I disable showing markers if I need to?
The Waveform Optins has an option named “Disable Markers” which will hide markers in the waveform, but still display a list of these for reference.

Are Markers Searchable?
Yup!  Just create a search [field] box and set it to [markers] and you can search for markers then.  The files need to have been scanned in version 2024 or higher for it work though.
