Intro
Welcome to the basehead KnowledgeBase!
This is constantly being updated as new features roll out, so it’s always worth checking it out if it’s been a while.
If you are new to basehead then this is a great place to start and to learn about the flexibility and the power under the hood.
Requirements
Win11 or Win10
macOS 10.15 is minimum,
but only mac12.0 (or higher) is officially supported.

Audio Formats
Reads: WAV, BWF, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, OGG, Opus, AAC, M4A, MP4, AC-3, WMA (Win), CAF (Mac)
Writes: Broadcast WAV, FLAC
Transfer Sample Rates
44.1k, 48k, 88.2k, 96k, 176.4k, 192k — or keep the original
Bit Depths
16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit float (FLAC maxes at 24)
Channels
Mono through 7.1.6 — up to 16 channels per file. Supports SMPTE, FILM, and DTS ordering. Auto-detects split files (.L/.R/.C/.Lfe etc).
Metadata
Reads & writes all the chunks that matter:
- BEXT – timestamp, description, UMID, coding history
- iXML – scene, take, track list, all the Steinberg/Soundminer-style fields
- LIST/INFO – artist, genre, keywords, category, copyright, etc.
- ID3 – MP3/AIFF tags (title, artist, album, BPM, mood)
- CUE + SMPL – markers and loop points
- ACID – tempo, root note, time signature
- r64m – Cubase/Nuendo markers
- SNDM – SoundMiner fields
- AXML – broadcast audio XML
Unique IDs (OriginatorRef, UMID) are automatically cleared on regions to prevent Pro Tools stamp dialogs.

This is written for both PC and macOS versions.
So sometimes when you see (Ctrl+X) as a key command and it doesn’t work, try (CMD+X) instead for macOS.
The best way to learn key commands are with Tool Tips inside the program or go to the Keyboard Shortcuts section.
Also, and this is a big one….
If you see something in this KnowledgeBase that is not in the program, it’s probably NOT in your Edition.
