Floating Licenses
A floating license isn’t locked to one computer — it’s a pool of seats your team shares, used on whichever machines need basehead at the time, up to your seat count.
What floating licenses are
Instead of “one license = one fixed machine,” a multi-seat (floating) license gives you a pool of seats. Any computer on your team can pick up a seat when it launches basehead and hand it back when it quits — so a 10-seat license can cover a rotating crew of far more than 10 people, as long as no more than 10 are running at once.
That’s ideal for studios and facilities: no per-machine activation juggling, and no seats wasted on computers that aren’t in use right now.
How it works in basehead
Floating is handled by the LAN License Server (LLS) — a small console app (PC / Mac / Linux) your basehead clients connect to by IP address. The server tracks active seats in real time; if a client quits, or a computer dies from a power outage, its seat is released automatically.
When you activate a multi-seat license in My Licenses, choose LAN Server (LLS) (the other option is Device / System). Single-seat CloudBased licenses are unchanged — one license per computer, not pooled.
