Wwise Integration

WAAPI integration to hard-wire Audiokinetic Wwise to basehead — toss files back and forth while retaining most parameters.

Not yet ported to basehead 2026. If you need this feature, get in touch — we can move it up the priority list. The instructions below describe the workflow as it existed in earlier versions.

Who’s it for?

basehead usually sits before the DAW in the workflow, with Wwise at the end. So who is direct-to-Wwise integration for?

Audio programmers and implementers, people sketching rough ideas quickly, and mobile-game developers whose assets aren’t complex enough to need a DAW in between — especially if you already have a curated pack of finished assets.

Setup

  1. Open Wwise → User Preferences and turn WAAPI on. If you aren’t using WAAPI with anything else, set it to #unknown.
  2. Set the External Wave Editor to basehead — this lets you send selected objects to basehead with Ctrl/Cmd+E.
  3. Set the WAMP port to 12101.

Important: WAMP port must be 12101 — the default may be different.

Then in basehead, open the NodeTree settings panel and enable the Wwise node (it’s unchecked by default).

Sending files to Wwise

Find a sound in basehead, pitch it up or down, add plugins, and when you’re ready, click the transfer icon on the Wwise node in the left-side NodeTree. The file flies over to Wwise.

You can also use Ctrl/Cmd+E from inside basehead.

Recalling and updating

Recently transferred objects are stored in the left-side NodeTree node so you can recall them, make changes, and update the object in Wwise.

  • Click an object in the NodeTree to pull it back from Wwise.
  • Or, from inside Wwise, press Ctrl/Cmd+E to send the file back to basehead — it lands at the top of the node list.
  • Make your changes in basehead, then press the Refresh Wwise Object button (rightmost) to push the update.
