Why isn’t Nuendo, Cubase or Pro Tools copying files to the audio files folder when spotting or pressing (X) when the DAW’s prefs are set to “always copy”?
It’s because we are using an API supplied by these companies and they ignore these settings with region spotting and always reference files. Seems like a bug on their end to be honest.
So it’s best to have ‘Force Reference’ set to OFF and use the “Follow Session Folder” option and always let basehead do the file copying.
Why when Pro Tools HD is open I can’t hear BaseHead anymore?
It’s cuz PT HD Hardware can’t share hardware with any other program. It’s the only DAW in the world that will NOT release an audio driver in the background.
This is NOT a BaseHead problem cuz you will find that any media player like VLC or Windows Media Player will also have the same issue after PT seized the driver and won’t let it go.
Some solutions…
- Use an audio interface like ones from RME with a multi-client driver.
- Use a different audio interlace or on board sound for BH.
- Use basehead Connect. Our built in ReWire replacement. Install the VST3, AAX or AU plugin and press the “B.C.” button in the transport section to stream audio to your DAW direct from basehead.
When Spotting to Pro Tools using (S) why are some of my characters and being replaced with underscores “_”?
Avid’s old region spotting API is ancient and only supports mainly Western characters. Unfortunately nothing from the East like Japanese, Chinese and Korean etc…
It’s best to the just use Drag and Drop instead of (S) or (X) if your SFX have non-western characters until we add support for a new Scripting SDK that they just released. We hope this will be fixed with that release.
When I try and drag any file from basehead on my PC to my Desktop or to my DAW (Especially Pro Tools) it doesn’t work?
You need to shut your Window UAC off to fix this. It’s a known bug reported by Avid and that is their official fix for it! hahaha
Also, if you run a DAW like Cubase ‘As Administrator’ you will get the same problem until you turn the UAC OFF.
Dragging file into Pro Tools results in just noise?
This is usually due to the file being released on the PT timeline before basehead has finished processing it.
If you DnD a file to PT it is important to hold the mouse down till it’s completely copied. If you release the file in PT before it has finished transferring it will produce white noise. This usually occurs when you make a selection of a file which is a large amount and takes some time to process
The Pro Tools Aggregate audio driver is causing BaseHead to crash on each record click. How to fix?
Simple….do NOT use it! 😉
It’s a faked driver and not a very good one. Plus if set up wrong will cause crashing so avoid it all all costs if possible.
Use basehead Connect or Source Nexus instead to route audio from basehead to ours of their AAX plugin is best.
“Spot to Track” doesn’t seem to be working. No error message and it looks to work, but no file appears on the Pro Tools Timeline after press “S”
Here is a checklist to be aware of when using Pro Tools:
- Using macOS Spaces or Pro Tools Maximized in FULL SCREEN mode will wall off contact to PT from BH, so avoid these at all costs cuz PT will not receive an Apple Event from BaseHead.
- as of macOS 10.13 or so BaseHead has to be in your ‘Applications’ folder as required by Apple now to fire commands into another program.
- basehead’s Sample Rate on the Options/Transfers tab must match the Pro Tools Session Sample Rate to work correct also especially with regions and “Spot with Handles”.
- Also make sure basehead is set to control your computer in System Preferences/Security & Privacy/Accessibility and Automation. If it’s already in the list then remove it and re-add it.
What are the recommended settings to use Pro Tools with basehead?
basehead is designed to be the file conversion boss of PT, so it’s recommended to have BH do all the file copying and conversions.
So turn ALL PT Import options OFF like the image to the left. <<<<
Using ‘Follow Session Folder’ is also highly recommended to copy all audio to the Audio Files folder for the current Pro Tools Session automatically. We could write a book why this is the best practices when using Pro Tools.
Just trust us….this is the best way to work and how it was designed. 8)
Spotting Files Not Working with Apple Silicon chips?
basehead is Apple Silicon capable but the DAW also needs to be be running the the same. You can use Rosetta mode but BOTH basehead and the DAW each need to be set to the same.
Dragging files on PC between BaseHead and another application and explorer isn’t working correctly.
You may be running basehead or the other application as Administrator. Disable basehead and other applications from running as Administrator to be able to drag files between applications. If basehead runs as Administrator it will not be able to drag files to the desktop/explorer folders.
