Metadata Import/Export & Burn In
Standard & Ultra Versions
Importing and Exporting standard .TVS, .CSV and .TXT text files allow editing metadata in a spreadsheet program like Excel or Google Sheets and import the data back into the database OR use this page to Imported Text files from other programs that you are tired of using…haha
Import/Export Text File (F7)
Importing Features:
- Imports and Exports these file formats. (.tsv, .csv, .txt) as Tab Delimited or Comma separated, Semi-colon separated.
- Auto matches columns and allows manual re-routing in the bottom section.
- Uncheck a [field] to the left skip it during the Importing Process
- Also…..it imports the main two “rival” programs text files also so you can ditch their dated closed format program and migrate over to basehead and never look back and live in happy happy land now….;-)
Requirements to re-link files back into basehead are the [folder] and [filename] fields for PC and [path] for macOS
Use the option ‘Relink using [filenames] only’ is good if you pulled an updated text file off the internet from someone like BOOM Library or imported a text file exported on a different PC or Mac and the files are not at the same paths.
Exporting Features:
- Exports (.tsv, .csv, .txt) as Tab Delimited or Comma separated, Semi-colon separated.
- Export either Current Search Results of the Entire Databasen.
- Three different choices of what [fields] are exported to the file.
- Option to Include Mandatory [fields] to ensure Importing back into basehead after external editing is done
We highly recommend always using the .TSV format as less prone to errors.
Burn In Metadata (F6)
Standard and Ultra Versions
IMPORTANT: There are only two cases you ever need to use the BurnIn Panel.
1. After Importing a Text File from the ^^ above^^ feature.
2. You enabled ‘Disable File Writing’ on the UCS/Chunks Options page to allow to changing just DB values when editing and now want to update the files to match the Database.
BurnIn Features:
-
After you import a text file you can use this panel to inject all the new values into the metadata of the physical files.
-
Three options to select what records with files attached the of Multiple Chunk options to pick from.
-
This Panel would usually be used after Importing a Text File that has been edited in a spreadsheet editor OR was from a “rival” program as by default when you edit inside basehead the file metadata is updated automatically.
- However!….If you chose to turn ON ‘Disable File Writing’ you can use the Panel with ‘Changed Records Only’ enabled and this will sync your Database changes to the metadata in the physical audio files.

How to Import a database from a certain “rival” program?
First go to said horrible program and choose the “Dump Search Query as Text File” function.
Make sure to include [FilePath] in the dump. This file must also include [RecID] but that should be included by default “in theory”.
The select this dump file in BaseHead and choose either to ‘Create New Import’ or ‘Merge and Update’ to try and link with files in the current database.
How to Import a database from Netmix into basehead:
Make sure to export the text file with [Path] and [FileID] in the dump from Netmix
Then import this text file and it will auto-map the [fields] link with files in the current database.
