Hey everyone,

New to Basehead and am currently trying to migrate over to this great program. We have used Soundminer in the past and are hoping to make the switch. The only problem is that when I put files into Basehead from Soundminer it isn't showing all the data we added in. Just trying to figure out if there's anything extra I need to do to fix this. Has anyone else had this issue or know what I'm doing wrong?

SM encrypts the data injected in most fields so they cannot be read using other programs (which is always handy) 🙄

So what you end up with is this:

BaseHead stores metadata in files using the iXML format which is an open metadata standard used now by most other applications and is open and interchangeable to allow you to easily carry metadata between programs and it looks like this within the file:

In BaseHead you can press F3 on a file to open the metadata viewer panel to see what data is available:
https://baseheadinc.com/index.php/knowledge-base/metadata-viewer-panel/

If there is encrypted SM data it will just show a block that says "Encrypted" which no other program can read.

Not to worry tho, there are solutions.

As mentioned you can do a text export of all the available Data and BaseHead has the ability to detect this generated file and import the data and match it up with the files you have imported. There is a guide and video explanation here:

https://baseheadinc.com/index.php/knowledge-base/metadata-import-export-burn-in/

The basic steps are to export the text data from the other application first, them create an import library in BH, import the files first then do the text import to match up the filenames from the text file with the ones in BH and all the data should then be read into BH and matched up. Once done you can then Burn that data into the files so it is now stored in iXML within the files.

Never used it, just going based on what is in the manual.

If there is readable metadata and we are not importing it, open a ticket and attach a file of question so we can have more of a closer look.

Yes they followed us and started reading/writing Steinberg iXML a bit ago.

@acccouts Depending on what version you have you might need their Pro Pack or the latest version and turn iXML  ON and Burn it in the files like Nikolaj mentioned and then BaseHead will read most all of it just fine.

They did have a few mistakes last time I looked it so hopefully they fixed them by now.

Example: the the [library] field should be read/written from the Steinberg Tag [MediaLibraryName]  instead of [MediaLibrary] where they where putting it when I looked last.

So if they haven't fixed that yet still someone should show them this

FYI: Other companies such as Avid and PSE will be following the above routing also now for the upcoming Media Composer and  SoundQ.

Another way to go if you are using an old version of their software and can't burn in iXML then export a text file out of it and user Text File Import and Burn Panels in BaseHead Ultra.

but the 1st mention way is recommended if possible.   8)
