I recently saw the HTTPS support. Very cool.

I'm wondering if anyone tried using this protocol to reference a synology NAS.

Would such a thing be possible, or is that only possible via the basehead server option?

Cloning a drive just to carry has been a pain so being able to access the Synology remotely would be cool!

If the NAS is on LAN then no need to deal with HTTP, but if your trying to access it over WAN then I wouldn't expect it to perform well.  I have one personally and it works great locally but upload speeds are not amazing on those things, but mine is 4 years old so maybe the newer ones are better.

Look into something that can mount it like a local drive like this first maybe

also another main bottle next will be your home internet upload speeds also  😉
