Coming up in next macOS update for 10.15 they are requiring all developers to notarize all applications.
Here's the catch......
We have to use Xcode 10 and can only link against macOS 10.9 or later SDK so 10.8 support will be officially killed off.
Anyone hanging onto 10.8 should not plan on going past 5.1 until they upgrade.

We actually might even drop 10.9 support at the same time to avoid the same story next year. The last poll we took had zero users on 10.9 but I know a few are still on 10.8.5 cuz of old PT hardware.
We just decided to axe 10.9 support also for version 5.2 since this limits us from using some newer libraries we really want to use for future features and way too many UI issues on 10.9 when building in 10.14
