Major Exciting Changes in this version!
Search Results are way faster now esp. for complex multi-word searches

it feels like we just upgraded our already beastly 400HP Challenger to a 880HP Demon!....haha
Search results are near instantaneous now.  😉

The three new major TESTING DB options:

  • FTS (Full Text Search) - Blazing fast word searching
  • RAM (Loads DB in RAM of course)
  • Database Menu/Indexing Options: for non-FTS mode. Tick on the combo searches you use often and then click “Rebuild Indexes” to update the database to gain extra speed.

What is Full Text Search?
This is less of a deep search than the original BH search.  It won’t return as much, which many will prefer, but it’s insanely faster cuz it builds FTS indexes into your Database.
So now “rain” will not return “train”.  Keep in mind that if you have older files with no spaces in them then you might want to keep this option OFF or toggle between them

Example: if you have a file named.   “FreightTrainPassBy” then a FTS search of “train” will NOT find this record.  BaseHead was created when CamelCaseDescriptionsAndNames were dominant so the deep character search was most important, but now most people have modern libraries named with spaces between the words now so FTS is here now to have the best of both worlds now and you can toggle between the modes.

FYI: the more words you type to search for the larger the speed increase you will see from the old way.

Which one to choose?
Basically….if you feel most your library is tagged non CamelCaseStyle  then go with FTS and when you feel you are not finding everything toggle it OFF and switch to RAM for extra speed.

If you feel you want to leave FTS off mostly and you use combo searches lots like [description+ filename+category]  then create indexes for the ones you use most in the Database/Indexing Options menu for extra speed

NOTE: There is no reason to have them both FTS and RAM on at the same time we have found.  FTS by itself is crazy fast.  Only use RAM if you have FTS OFF
Also the new Database/Indexing Options are not needed also if you decide to stick with FTS mode.

Steve T.
p.s. The FTS and RAM buttons will NOT be in the final release.  They are just there for quick testing purposed only right now. 😉

Also in this version

  • BaseHead Server: you can now ‘Rename’ and ‘Delete’ databases from BaseHead Clients if you have admin rights in cubeSQL.
  • BaseHead Server:  a ‘Validate’ account is no longer required for first time connect when using cubeSQL 5.8 or higher
  • Reverse Playback “Q” improvements done
  • Imports/Groups: fixed MAJOR lag when Cmd+Clicking them to do a focused search

I just posted a new version with a fix for the CODESIGNING Crash that some 10.15 rigs were seeing after rebooting after installing BH caused by a 3rd party library that we have now sacked.  😉

The "Enable RAM DB" option has been moved to the Options Page now.
It has other fixes also I will post later on.

New version that will launch on macOS11.1 now and no longer crashes on records that have 'Groups' attached under Big Sur BUTTT if has a strange grey graphic issues that we will sort out tomorrow hopefully.
Either way it's better then the crash that was happening under Big Sur...haha

Also it now sorts before displaying records better and many new search engine improvement.
FYI: the button has been flipped on the Results List.  So when "A" is ON it's in the old Deep Character search mode.

When it's OFF (the new default search mode) it's in blazing fast Speed Demon mode.

Lots of other changes... but it's Sunday and not really feeling like it right now.  Time to catch up on The Mandalorian instead.   😉
