What types of authorizations do you offer?

See all the new options that started with BaseHead 4.x here

Do you offer Network Floating Licenses so we can run multiple BH licenses off one dongle?

We sure!   The Codemeter CmStick versions will allow you to do this.
For example: you can buy 10 licenses and put it on one CmStick.
Then at anytime up to 10 PC’s can run BH on the network at one time.
These are great for Facilities of 5 or more users.

BUTTTT….even better you can doing Floating licenses with the all new CloudBased Licenses and they work great for WFH users also!

Why isn't Nuendo, Cubase or Pro Tools copying files to the audio files folder when spotting or pressing"X" when the DAW prefs are set to always copy?

It’s because we are using an API supplied by these companies and they ignore these settings with region spotting and always reference files.
Seems like a bug on their end to be honest.

So best to always set your transfer path to the audio files folder for the session to get the desired results. Nuendo/Cubase users can use the “Follow Session Folder” option also to make the process automated

How do I physically change BWAV descriptions in the files themselves?

Select a record and press “R” (Non-Lite version)

OR in 4.x Ultra just double click the [description] field on the Details Panel to edit this field OR any other that is editable.

Why when Pro Tools HD is open I can't hear BaseHead anymore?

It’s cuz PT HD with Avid Hardware can’t share hardware with any other program.  It’s the only DAW in the world that will NOT release an audio driver in the background.

This is NOT a BaseHead problem cuz you will find that any media player like VLC or Windows Media Player will also have the same issue after PT seized the driver and won’t let it go.

Some solutions…

  • Use a better audio interface with a proper multi-client driver.
  • Use a different audio interlace or on board sound for BH.
  • BaseHead PC users: Use ReWire if available in your version or use VoiceMeeter (ASIO4ALL is not multi-client)
  • BaseHead Mac users: Use Source Nexus to route audio into PT or another program to program routing application.
(email us for SN discount codes!)
  • Route BH out your internal sound card and into a mixer or SPDIF out to SPDIF in on your PT hardware and open up an input track to hear BH.

Or even better…..Switch to a DAW that doesn’t suck like Nuendo or REAPER!  hahaha
sorry…couldn’t resist!  8)

When Spotting to Pro Tools using "S" why are some of my characters and being replaced with underscores "_"?

Avid’s region spotting API is ancient and only supports mainly Western characters. Unfortunately nothing from the East like Japanese, Chinese and Korean etc…

It’s best to the just use Drag and Drop instead of “S” or “X” if your SFX have non-western characters.

Dragging files between BaseHead and another application/explorer isn't working or doesn't correctly place

You may be running BaseHead or the other application as Administrator. Disable BaseHead and other applications from running as Administrator to be able to drag files between applications. If BaseHead runs as Administrator it will not be able to drag files to the desktop/explorer folders.

Multi-Channel files are not displaying in the correct order?

All modern files are written as SMPTE format internally with the channel order in the metadata and BH displays them as is and transfers them 1 to 1 with the channel order metadata.

BH has the ability to route the output to FILM mode but we do not currently re-arrange the channels visually to match the metadata, it will always display the channels in SMPTE order

Multi-Channel files are not correctly streaming/copying to Pro Tools

All multi-channel files have SMPTE channel order with metadata used to set the actual channel order. When the channel order in OPTIONS is set to SMPTE then there is no change to the files channel order. Set to FILM will change the channel ordering to film.

This is done globally and does not detect file-by-file channel order so can result in the incorrect channel order for some files.

Auto-detection of channel order has been requested and is being considered if possible.

When using files over my network I cannot save Markers, I receive a "File in Use" error

This is likely due to your files being set as “Read Only”. Check your file properties and ensure you have write access to the files
